What is Coaching?
"A powerful alliance designed to forward and enhance the lifelong process of human learning, effectiveness and fulfillment"
Coaching is not counselling – even though it is interested in you as a person, it isn’t concentrating on the past and how you came to be where you are in life.
It also isn’t mentoring, the coach is not a more experienced person passing on their knowledge to a less experienced client. As important as those two roles are at times, coaching is a different role. It takes you from where you are now and looks at where you want to be in the future, in whatever area of your life – home, work and play. All coaching we believe is life coaching as we can’t separate ourselves, as much as we try to do. We are who we are, wherever we are, we may show different sides of ourselves in different places but we are still the same person.
The coaching relationship is a powerful one. It gives permission for the client to dare to be who they want to be, to dream and make dreams a reality. It also gives permission for the client to reach further than they ever have before, to go beyond where they could’ve gone before and to take control of their lives. The relationship also gives way for the coach to be challenging, provocative, compassionate, encouraging, accountable, pushing, real, trustworthy, honest and present – for the client and their agenda.
Coaching will challenge you, move you on and make you think. Two desired outcomes of Co-Active coaching are to deepen the learning and forward the action. The coaching relationship enables that, but the client makes it happen – you will deepen your learning and forward the action for your life.
